Advance Your Career in Aviation

A Commercial Pilot License (CPL) permits you to be compensated for flying, meaning that you will now be rated to fly for hire. This license opens the door for your career in aviation as a professional pilot!

Or, if you’re interested in becoming a flight instructor, then you’re in luck! Flight instructors are in high demand right now, and this particular career path is expected to remain in demand for quite a few years, according to some experts.

Most, if not all flight instructors will tell you that they learned more after becoming a certified flight instructor (CFI) than they knew before going into it. At EFI Flight School, we prepare applicants to be the best instructor possible. Both Initial and Instrument Add-On courses are available.

Commercial Pilot License (CPL)

The Commercial Pilot Certificate is required for individuals who want to fly for compensation or hire. It is the first step to becoming a professional pilot. We offer single or multi-engine commercial flight training that will enable a pilot to meet minimum standards to work for compensation in a variety of areas ranging from flight instruction, commercial operators, and banner towing.

How to Obtain Your CPL

General Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age.

  • Be able to read, write, speak and understand English

  • Be able to obtain at least a 2nd Class Medical Certificate
  • Pass FAA Commercial Pilot Written Knowledge Test

  • Pass an FAA Practical Test (Oral and Flight)

Materials Needed

  • Cessna Private Pilot Ground School Course

  • ASA Private Oral Exam Guide

  • Current FAA Aeronautical Charts and FAR/AIM manual

Flight Requirements

The difference in minimum flight hours between Part 61 and Part 141 are more significant when training for a Commercial Pilot’s license.

  • 250 total hours subject to FAR requirements under Part 61

  • 120 total training hours subject to FAR requirements under Part 141

For a lower hour pilot, training under Part 141 might be the best route to take even with the additional requirement for 55 hours training with an instructor.

If you were able to build hours as a private pilot before considering the commercial rating, you might consider training under Part 61 to take advantage of the reduced instructor hours.

Program Costs

The cost to obtain a Commercial Certificate varies based on number of flight hours currently held. A logbook review is required for an accurate estimate.

Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)

Once you receive your Commercial rating the next step for most people is to obtain their CFI, CFII and MEI ratings so that they can build flight hours while teaching others how to fly. At EFI Flight School you can receive training for all three flight instructor certificates: Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Instrument Instructor (CFII) and Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI).

Students who have completed the CFI course with EFI Flight School may have an opportunity to work with us as a flight instructor, providing an opportunity to earn an income while building experience and flight time.
